The Cricket Cranes, Uganda’s national cricket team, have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies.
Uganda will be participating in its first-ever ICC World Cup. With five victories in six games, Uganda finished in the top two of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier.
The Cricket Cranes’ straightforward nine-wicket victory over neighboring Rwanda sealed their qualifying.
After Rwanda was bowled out for just 65 runs by Uganda’s excellent bowling attack, the target was eventually chased down by the ninth over.
Uganda defeated Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Nigeria, and highly placed Zimbabwe in the regional qualifier. After losing to Namibia by six wickets, Uganda only lost one match.
The International Cricket Council has been organizing the two-year-old ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, an international cricket competition, since 2007. It will have 20 teams by 2024.
Before the knockout stages, the actual 20-team competition in 2024 will be divided into two stages.
Following the division of the remaining teams into two groups of four, the top two teams from each of the four groups of five advance to the Super Eights phase. Next, the top two finishers from each group advance to the semifinals.
Namibia and Uganda are the latest countries to book tickets for next year’s World Cup.
