On Friday, a vehicle operated by Kingo Vehicle Company toppled near Kabaale Bugonzi on the Masaka Kampala highway, leaving one person dead on the scene and fourteen injured.

An elderly woman was killed instantly when a bus with the registration number UBA 293A toppled while attempting to pass a trailer in Kabaale Bugonzi hamlet in Masaka City along the Kampala-Masaka route.

The incident occurred while the bus was traveling from Kampala to Mbarara. It was similar to another tragedy that occurred at the same spot in 1996 and claimed the life of well-known kadongo-kamu singer Herman Basudde.

The old woman’s tragic death was immediately confirmed by Masaka police; her identity is still unknown pending additional inquiry.

“The Police are still hunting Tumwine Francis the bus driver who is currently on the run,” stated Jamada Wandera, the Masaka sub-region police spokesperson, in reference to the ongoing investigations into the accident.

Wandera stressed the significance of finding out what happened before this awful tragedy and holding all those responsible.

Arinaitwe Rogers (21), Ashaba Nita (26), Sarah (24), Mulamye Noline (24), Mwongera Francis (50), Alinatwe (28), and Namulinde Olivia (24), are among the injured.

The injured were taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital so they could receive emergency care.

Witnesses at the scene, however, believe that the bus driver’s careless driving was the reason for the collision.

The specific cause will be revealed by the investigations, according to the regional police spokesperson.

Wandera stated, “Our main priorities are making sure the survivors are safe and carrying out a comprehensive investigation into the incident.”

According to him, the police are dedicated to prosecuting those accountable and providing clarity on the events leading up to this unfortunate incident.

As the holiday season approaches, Wandera further asked the public to assist law enforcement by supplying any pertinent information that could support the current investigation to prevent accidents.

While the community struggles to recover from this tragic event, concerns about road safety protocols remain along the dangerous Kampala-Masaka route, which is known for its high death toll, particularly during the holiday season.
