The Electoral Commission (EC) has debunked rumors claiming a lack of funds for the upcoming voter registration exercise.
EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi confirmed that the process will proceed as planned despite a recent adjustment in the registration timeline. Originally set for January 3–24, 2025, the exercise will now take place from January 20 to February 10, 2025.
Addressing public concerns, Mucunguzi clarified, “The extension will not impact our budget. We have the resources necessary to ensure the process runs smoothly.”
Speculation about financial challenges arose following the timeline revision. However, Mucunguzi explained the adjustment was strategic, aimed at enhancing logistical and operational efficiency while allowing stakeholders more preparation time.
“This change does not disrupt the broader electoral schedule,” he emphasized, reaffirming the EC’s commitment to a seamless and organized registration process.
The commission has reassured the public that all logistical and financial provisions are in place to ensure the exercise is accessible to all eligible voters.
