Precious Tumuhirwe, 35, a former housemaid, has admitted to torturing a four-year-old girl and causing grievous harm.

She appeared before Kira Chief Magistrate Shallon Niwaha on charges related to a December 27, 2024 assault in Kikoko Zone, Namataba Cell, Kirinya Ward, Wakiso District.

Having previously apologized to the victim’s family and Ugandans, Tumuhirwe now awaits sentencing following her guilty plea.

She was apprehended in Kabale District after fleeing the scene and is currently detained at Kira Division Police Station as the case progresses.

Investigations revealed that Tumuhirwe had been employed as a housemaid by the victim’s father, Michael Mwesigwa, for four years. Mwesigwa, a single parent, had hired her based on recommendations from Kabale acquaintances.

A video showing Tumuhirwe violently assaulting the child in a bathroom sparked outrage, leading to widespread demands for justice and stricter child protection laws.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire emphasized the seriousness of the case, assuring the public of justice.

Child and Youth Affairs Minister Balaam Barugahara praised the police’s swift response, condemning the violence and urging collective action to safeguard children.
