Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of the Opposition in Uganda’s Parliament, has officially been enrolled as a practising advocate, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey.
The announcement was made on his social media pages, where he reflected on the long process of becoming a lawyer.
“Becoming a Practicing Advocate is such a lengthy journey,” he wrote.
Ssenyonyi explained that the path involves completing a law degree, followed by the Law Development Centre (LDC), and finally enrolment, which grants the right to represent clients in court. He confirmed that he had now accomplished this final step, humorously adding: “So if you need Counsel to represent you, just holla.”
Academic and Professional Journey
Ssenyonyi’s academic career began at Makerere University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Statistics. He later pursued journalism, working with leading media outlets such as UBC and NTV Uganda.
Despite his success in the media, his childhood ambition to study law eventually drew him back to university. He returned to Makerere to earn a Bachelor of Laws degree and later joined the Law Development Centre, the mandatory final step for aspiring advocates in Uganda.

Most recently, he added a Master of Arts in Organisational Leadership and Management from Uganda Christian University (UCU) to his list of qualifications.
Recognition and Congratulations
Ssenyonyi’s enrolment was celebrated widely, with friends, colleagues, and political allies sending congratulatory messages. Among them was his party president, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), who wrote: “Hearty congratulations, Comrade Hon. @JoelSsenyonyi upon your enrolment as an Advocate, another milestone in your journey of service to the struggle and Uganda!”
With this new achievement, Ssenyonyi now embarks on the next chapter of his career, balancing his legal practice with his role in politics and public service.
