Motorists traveling along the Kampala-Jinja highway should anticipate a traffic diversion at the Mabira section starting Tuesday at 6 a.m. to allow for roadworks in the area.
Allan Ssempebwa, spokesperson for the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), confirmed that Traffic Police are working closely with UNRA to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure smooth progress of the construction.
SP Michael Kananura, the Central Liaison Officer for Traffic Police, announced that heavy trucks will be redirected at the Nile Bridge toward Nyenga-Kisoga, continuing to Wantoni in Mukono via the Mukono-Katosi Road. Vehicles heading from Kampala to Jinja will be rerouted at Wantoni in Mukono, passing through Kisoga and Nyenga to reach Jinja.
To minimize disruption, police officers and UNRA teams will be stationed along the route to guide motorists. SP Kananura urged drivers to follow instructions, remain disciplined, and exercise patience during the works, emphasizing that their cooperation is highly valued.
Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and adhere to diversion signs and traffic directives to avoid delays.
The Mabira section of the highway, known for frequent truck accidents and poor road conditions, is undergoing critical repairs. UNRA plans to replace asphalt in the most affected areas and repair potholes along the Mabira Forest stretch, a process expected to take approximately two weeks.
