Police in Kassanda have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a police officer who was struck and killed by a truck while riding a motorcycle.
According to Superintendent of Police Racheal Kawala, the Wamala region police spokesperson, the accident occurred on Monday in Nakiganda village along the Mityana-Mubende highway. A Fuso truck, registration number UBA 135G, collided with a motorcycle, registration number UFP 815R, being ridden by Constable Moses Aliguma, who was attached to Kassanda Central Police Station (CPS).
“Preliminary findings reveal that the driver of the Fuso truck, traveling from Mityana towards Mubende, veered off his lane to avoid potholes. Unfortunately, the truck struck the motorcycle, which was heading in the opposite direction on its correct lane,” Kawala explained.
Constable Aliguma died on the spot. Police examined and documented the scene, and the officer’s body was transported to Kiganda Health Centre mortuary for a postmortem.
Both the motorcycle and the truck were towed to Kassanda CPS for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
“The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving by the Fuso truck driver, who left his lane,” Kawala noted.
Efforts to apprehend the truck driver are ongoing as police work to ensure he faces reckless driving charges.
