Kiprop and Chelangat Set for Showdown at Stockholm

Uganda’s top long-distance runners, Kenneth Kiprop and Sarah Chelangat, are ready to light up the track at this Sunday’s Stockholm Diamond League meet, where both athletes are targeting career-best performances.

Currently fine-tuning their preparations in Sweden, the duo is focused on making a bold statement on the global athletics scene.

Kiprop will line up in the men’s 5000 meters, where he’ll face tough competition from Ethiopia’s Ybeltal Gashahun and Kuma Girma, Kenya’s Cornelius Kemboi, Andrew Kiptoo Kimeli, and Rop Kiprop, along with American contender Cole Hocker.

Meanwhile, Chelangat, who recently triumphed in the 5000m at the 2025 Kip Keino Classic, will compete in the 3000 meters. Her main rivals include Kenya’s Carolin Nyaga and Hellen Lobun, and Portugal’s Salome.

Both athletes are under the close guidance of their coaches as they finalize preparations. Kiprop, who has already recorded a personal best this season, has his sights set on breaking the 13-minute barrier. “With such a competitive field, I believe I can run under 13 minutes,” he told the Uganda Radio Network.

Chelangat is using this race as a key test of her speed and endurance as she builds towards her ultimate target: a standout performance at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

Coach Moses Kipsiro emphasized that Kiprop’s training has been meticulously planned to ensure he delivers his best. The Ugandan team is confident and focused on flying their country’s flag high in Stockholm.
