Mabira Road Repairs Near Completion, Expect Traffic Delays

Travelers heading east on the Jinja-Kampala highway are experiencing delays near Mabira Forest due to ongoing road repairs.

The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) began the repairs last month to improve safety, but the work remains unfinished as the team broke for the Christmas holidays.

UNRA spokesperson Allan Ssempebwa explained that although the repairs were expected to be completed earlier this month, delays occurred due to unforeseen challenges. He confirmed that work will resume on December 28, and the remaining tasks will be completed within three days.

Ssempebwa also mentioned ongoing efforts to seal potholes along the highway from Lugazi to Jinja to enhance long-term road safety.

However, travelers and stakeholders are urging the government to consider a full reconstruction of the stretch between Lugazi and the Nile Bridge, which they believe is in poor condition. Mabira Forest remains a notorious spot on the highway, contributing to frequent accidents, especially during peak travel seasons.

There are concerns that the current repairs may not fully resolve the issues, and many call for a more substantial investment to improve this vital section of the road.

Despite these challenges, Ssempebwa reassured the public of UNRA’s dedication to road safety and urged drivers to be cautious while traveling through the repaired areas. As the festive season continues, travelers are advised to expect delays and plan their trips accordingly until the work is completed.
