Team Uganda heads into the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo with confidence, despite the absence of long-distance legends Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo.
Uganda Athletics Federation President Dominic Otucet, addressing the media, urged fans not to view their absence as a setback but rather as an opportunity for emerging athletes to step up.
“Even without Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, our team remains strong. I have full faith that this squad has the ability to win medals of all kinds,” Otucet affirmed.
He went on to compare the moment to Stephen Kiprotich’s unforgettable marathon victory at the 2012 London Olympics, when Uganda stunned the world with a historic gold against the odds.
Athletes within the camp share the same optimism, vowing to give their all to keep Uganda’s flag flying high. United by determination and resilience, they believe Tokyo could mark yet another golden chapter in the nation’s athletics story.
