Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among will represent Uganda at the burial of Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
Captain Mike Mukula confirmed that the Vatican extended an official invitation to the Speaker—who has shared a long-standing relationship with the Pope—to attend the funeral Mass, which will be officiated by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re.
He also noted that President Yoweri Museveni designated Among to lead the Ugandan delegation, underscoring the strong diplomatic relationship between Uganda and the Vatican.
Among has previously met Pope Francis several times, engaging in discussions on important issues such as climate change and youth empowerment in Africa. She praised the late Pontiff as “a committed spiritual leader who left a remarkable legacy within the global Catholic Church.”
The funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Square, with burial afterward at the Basilica of St. Mary Major.
Her attendance reflects Uganda’s enduring relationship with the Holy See.
