Uganda will take on reigning champions Senegal at Mandela National Stadium, Kampala, on Saturday, 23rd August. The matchup was confirmed after Sudan held Senegal to a 0-0 draw on 19th August, allowing Sudan to maintain the top spot in Group D while Senegal secured second place on goal difference.
This marks Uganda’s first appearance in the CHAN quarterfinals in seven tournament outings, following an exhilarating 3-3 draw with South Africa.
Uganda’s campaign started with a 3-0 defeat to 2023 finalists Algeria, but the team bounced back impressively with a 3-0 win over Guinea and a 2-0 victory against Niger, before drawing with South Africa. Senegal, on the other hand, began with a 1-0 win against Nigeria, followed by a 1-1 draw with Congo, and then a 0-0 draw against Sudan.
Other teams advancing to the quarterfinals include Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Algeria, Tanzania, and Sudan.
