Construction of the Hoima National Stadium has reached 89% completion, placing the $130 million project well ahead of its initial December 2025 deadline. Authorities say the facility, built by Turkey’s Summa International, is expected to be handed over between September and October 2025.

Situated on 34.9 acres in Mparo Division, Hoima City, the state-of-the-art complex features:

  • A 20,000-capacity main stadium and a 2,000-seat indoor arena
  • A semi-Olympic swimming pool, plus basketball, netball, and volleyball courts
  • Modern athletics tracks, advanced lighting, spectator seating, and training facilities

The stadium forms a central part of Uganda’s plans to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and is anticipated to stimulate tourism, hospitality, and business growth in Hoima and the wider Bunyoro sub-region.

Local leaders have suggested naming the facility in honor of Dr. James Rujumba, Uganda’s first veterinary surgeon, as recognition of his national contributions.

With final works nearing completion, Hoima National Stadium is poised to become a regional sporting hub and a landmark of Uganda’s infrastructure and sporting aspirations.
