According to a family member, former minister Henry Kyemba died at the age of 84 from diabetes. His nephew, Mr. Christopher Katagwa, confirmed that Kyemba passed away on Wednesday night at his home in the Kampala neighborhood of Namugongo, where he had been staying with his eldest daughter, Susan Kyemba.

For a significant period of his life, Kyemba had struggled with diabetes; more recently, though, his health had gotten worse, which had reduced his activity level. Suleiman Kisadha, a colonial chief in the Mayuge District, and Sasana Babirizangawo had seven sons; he was the seventh and last to be born.

Although the funeral plans have not yet been made public by the family, it is known that Kyemba will be buried at the family burial grounds in Wanyama Village, Bugembe Ward, Jinja North Division, Jinja City.

Henry Kyemba served in a number of important leadership roles throughout his career, including as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture in 1972, Minister of Health under President Idi Amin, Principal Private Secretary to President Milton Obote, and State Minister for Animal Husbandry in the early years of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) regime. His involvement and leadership in various administrations have had a big impact on Uganda’s political history.

Before seeking refuge in Britain in 1977, he remembered and made sure a few events that happened under his watch would not pass away with him. The New York Times later revealed the events.
