Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced the appointment of Mumba Kalifungwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2025, following regulatory approval. Kalifungwa, currently the Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, brings nearly 30 years of experience, including two decades in senior leadership roles in banking across Botswana, Zambia, and Uganda.

The Stanbic board expressed confidence in Kalifungwa’s ability to lead, citing his expertise in business development, risk management, strategy formulation, and financial planning. His leadership, the board said, aligns with the bank’s mission of driving Uganda’s growth.

Before his tenure at Absa Bank Uganda, Kalifungwa served as Chief Financial Officer at Absa Bank Botswana and in Zambia.

He is a Chartered Accountant and a fellow of several prestigious accounting institutes, including Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Additionally, he holds an MBA from Herriot Watt University in Scotland and has completed various senior leadership development programs.

Kalifungwa takes over the role previously held by Anne Jjuuko, who earlier this year transitioned to become the Eastern Africa Regional Head of Global Markets for Standard Bank Group in Nairobi.
