The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has expressed concern over the divisive and conflict-filled debates in Parliament and local councils, describing them as obstacles to justice and nation-building.

“It is disheartening to see conflict in places where justice and constructive ideas should prevail,” the Kabaka remarked.

He called for addressing oppression and resolving issues without discrimination during his annual New Year message delivered on December 23, 2024. The Kabaka urged his subjects and all Ugandans to prioritize unity, justice, and cultural preservation as the nation enters 2025.

Expressing gratitude for the gift of life, he encouraged renewed determination and commitment to achieving success. “We wish you a happy holiday season and New Year. Let us increase our efforts to achieve greater success,” he said.

The Kabaka emphasized resilience, advising young people to seek guidance from elders before making significant decisions and underscoring the importance of traditions and cultural values in fostering societal cohesion.

As the 2026 elections approach, he called on citizens to participate actively and elect visionary leaders committed to unity and national development. “We need leaders with a national perspective who will lead our Kingdom within a united Uganda,” he stressed.

The Kabaka also advocated for economic empowerment through initiatives like rice farming and other commercial ventures to fight poverty.

Additionally, he encouraged spiritual reflection and prayer for leaders, urging his people to uphold ethical values in their daily lives.

“May the New Year be a time of reflection and growth. Let us continue to discern between right and wrong,” he concluded.
