LUSAKA, ZAMBIA | The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting air travel liberalization across Africa on Monday. AFCAC Secretary General Adefunke Adeyemi stressed the commission’s dedication to implementing the Yamoussoukro Decision and the Single African Air Transport Market—two key initiatives aimed at easing restrictions and enhancing connectivity across the continent.
During a meeting with Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, Adeyemi stated that strengthening aviation frameworks would help reduce travel costs and improve intra-African connectivity, according to a post-meeting statement.
She emphasized that better connectivity would significantly benefit the tourism sector and related industries.
Minister Sikumba noted that Zambia is working to position itself as a leading tourism hub but underscored that reliable air links are crucial for attracting both regional and international visitors. He reaffirmed the government’s willingness to collaborate with aviation stakeholders to enhance access to the country’s tourism destinations.
The meeting provided a platform for both sides to discuss cooperation, with a focus on the role of aviation in driving tourism and economic growth in Africa.
According to the statement, AFCAC and Zambia’s Ministry of Tourism agreed to continue their collaboration, emphasizing joint efforts in policy development, infrastructure enhancement, and capacity building to promote sustainable tourism growth while strengthening the continent’s aviation sector.
