Former Koboko MP Margaret Baba Diri Passes Away at 69

Former Koboko Woman MP Margaret Baba Diri has passed away.

Koboko County MP James Boliba Baba made the announcement on Thursday in Parliament.

Although the exact cause of her death remains uncertain, reports suggest she passed away while being transported to the hospital.

Born on June 29, 1954, Baba Diri first entered Parliament in 1996 as a representative for people with disabilities.

She later served as the Koboko Woman MP but lost the seat in 2021 to Dr. Sharifa Aate, a granddaughter of former President Idi Amin.

Before joining politics, Baba Diri worked as a teacher at St. Charles Lwanga in Koboko from 1976 to 1990.

She also served as a gender development officer at the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) between 1992 and 1996.

She held a Diploma in Education from the National Teachers College Kyambogo and a Bachelor’s degree in Adult and Community Education from Kyambogo University.
