Police in Lira City West Division are investigating the escape of five suspects from police custody.

The individuals, including Johny Herbert (charged with burglary and theft), Moses Ocen (defilement), Carlos Ada (theft), Shadrack Odongo, and Robinson Ocen (suspected of robbery), fled from their cells around 11:15 p.m. on January 5, 2025.

North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed the incident and stated that PC James Euk, the cell guard, heard a loud noise from the cells and responded, only to find the suspects fleeing with the cell doors wide open. Despite firing warning shots, the escapees continued running.

An investigation has been launched, and PC Euk has been charged with negligence.

The police are actively searching for the escapees and are urging the public to assist in locating them.
