A parliamentary Defence Committee meeting meant to review budget estimates descended into turmoil as members demanded explanations about controversial statements made on X (formerly Twitter) by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces.

The session, led by State Minister for Defence Jacob Oboth Oboth and senior army officials, was disrupted after Shadow Cabinet Minister Derrick Nyeko raised concerns over Gen. Muhoozi’s absence.

Nyeko highlighted recent incendiary social media posts by the general, including threats to “behead” National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) and to hang opposition politician Col. Kizza Besigye.

The remarks sparked intense debate among committee members, who insisted that Gen. Muhoozi should appear in person to address his social media activity. Many questioned the potential impact of his statements on national stability and the defence ministry’s credibility.

The disagreement led to a temporary suspension of the session as officials and committee members worked to resolve the standoff.

No new meeting date has been set, and it remains unclear whether Gen. Muhoozi will be summoned to address the committee directly.
