The former Executive Director of the now-dissolved Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), Allen Kagina, has officially retired her X (formerly Twitter) handle, @UNRA_ED, as her nearly 10-year leadership of the agency comes to an end.

In a farewell post, Kagina shared, “Having fully served its purpose, I am retiring the handle @UNRA_ED. It has been 9 years and 8 months of fruitful engagement on this platform… adieu.”

Her decision follows the government’s October announcement to transfer UNRA’s mandate to the Ministry of Works and Transport. This integration aims to enhance efficiency and streamline operations, with the merger expected to conclude by the end of December.

Although UNRA’s functions are now under the ministry, the future of its staff remains uncertain, including Kagina’s role, as she has not received a new deployment despite being a presidential appointee.

Established in 2008, UNRA has been instrumental in developing Uganda’s road network. Under Kagina’s leadership, the agency successfully paved over 4,000 kilometers of national roads, significantly boosting connectivity and transport infrastructure across the country.

Kagina’s departure marks a pivotal moment as UNRA transitions into the Ministry of Works and Transport.
