The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has announced an interest rate of 22.53% on members’ savings for the 2025/26 financial year, marking the highest annual return in the Fund’s history.

The rate, announced on September 24, 2026, represents a significant increase from the 13.5% interest rate declared for FY2024/25 and the 11.5% paid to members in FY2023/24.

The latest return also exceeds NSSF’s previous record of 15%, which was declared for the 2017/18 financial year during the tenure of former Managing Director Richard Byarugaba.

NSSF’s annual interest rate had dropped to 9.65% in FY2021/22 before gradually recovering to 10% in FY2022/23, 11.5% in FY2023/24, and 13.5% in FY2024/25.

The record interest rate follows a strong financial performance by the Fund during the 2025/26 financial year. NSSF reported that its assets under management grew from approximately Shs26 trillion to Shs32.8 trillion, while member contributions increased to Shs2.42 trillion.

The Fund had also reported total income of approximately Shs6.5 trillion, representing an 85% increase compared with the previous financial year.

With the new 22.53% interest rate, NSSF members are expected to see significant growth in their accumulated savings. The actual amount credited to each member will depend on their qualifying account balance.
